In its quest to promote financial inclusion and pave the way for newer and excellent user experience regardless of individual abilities or disabilities, the United Bank for Africa, (UBA) has introduced the UBA Braille Account Opening Form designed specifically to cater to the financial needs of the visually impaired.

According to UBA, the account opening form, which was launched in Lagos recently, will further help to reposition the bank as a global brand with a paradigm shift that helps to support its drive for inclusivity across all its customers. It added that the initiative is also geared towards reconceptualizing the banking industry, while reaffirming that the newly introduced technological revolution will help to change how the visually impaired interact and do business on a day-to-day basis.

Ugo Nwaghodoh , UBA’s Executive Director, Finance and Risk Management, while outlining some of the inherent benefits from the initiative said, “In our quest to drive all-encompassing financial inclusion, we decided to support the visually impaired by developing a Braille Account Opening form and these special customers now have the same opportunities available to our customers.”

Others present at the launch were the General Manager, Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, Dare Dairo; Former Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Persons Living with Disability, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, as well as students from the Pacelli School of the Blind.

Commenting and endorsing the strategic initiative, one of the guests at the event, Cobhams Asuquo, said Braille Account, as an innovative initiative, presents UBA as a bank with a heart that pays keen attention to the needs of the blind and disabled.

“Before now, we have always been at the mercy of the reader when we want to do things like open accounts for ourselves, but this account opening form has come to solve the problem of access which has previously been a huge limiting factor for people like me who are blind.

“With this initiative, UBA has promoted our ideal of inclusivity and has helped to put back freedom in our hands while opening us up to the variety of opportunities and options available to us,” he said
