Elon Musk, the new Chief Executive Officer of Twitter, the micro-blogging company, two months after buying off the company at the sum of $44 billion from its former owner, Jack Dorsey, may be on his way out of the Twitter CEO seat.
This development is as a result of the poll launched by Elon Musk Sunday midnight stating, “Should I step down as head of Twitter, Yes or No?” the poll which ended around noon on Monday had over 17million votes in total. The result of the poll had 56.3% voting for him to step down while 43.7% wanted him to continue as CEO.
Netizens therefore await the multibillionaire who promised to “abide by the results of this poll”, to keep his end of the bargain and step down as Twitter’s CEO.
Recall that several developments have ensued since he bought over the company two months ago, from its former owner, Jack Dorsey, and since then, Musk began to make some controversial changes to the company’s policy and personnel, such as laying off several of Twitter’s top executives and half of the company’s staff immediately after becoming its CEO, and announced a stop to remote working for the remaining, lucky employees. He also went as far as proposing a monthly subscription of $20 monthly fee for the blue badge which he later reduced to $8.
The poll results capped a whirlwind of actions over the past few days, including the suspension of journalists which drew condemnation from news organizations, advocacy groups and officials across Europe. The proposed ban of Twitter accounts that promote links from other social media platforms such as Facebook. Instagram sparked reactions even among long-time supporters prompting twitter to delete the offending tweet.
After the tweet was deleted, Musk tweeted and promised not to change any policy without a vote. The Tweet reads: “Going forward, there will be a vote for a major policy change. My apologies. Won’t happen again.”
