Consumers vote for brands based on perceived value – Stakeholders

As winners in the maiden edition of the Consumer Value Awards, organised by Consumer Value Broadcasting Limited, continue to reminisce in the euphoria of the special recognition, stakeholders and participants have commended the initiative, adding that it should be upheld as an industry model by other value for money brands.
Akonte Ekine, CEO, Absolute PR and convener of the award commended consumers for expressing their rights with their votes and for ensuring the success of the first edition.
“It is all about the consumers. We are all in need of better service, in need of improvement in the product categories that we receive here and there. It is our responsibility to ensure that all these things happen well.”
Mr. Ekine assured consumers of more thrilling and rewarding outings in subsequent editions. “It is all about consumers deciding to vote and saying, ‘we cannot continue to pay bills without enjoying service; we can’t continue to buy products and the packaging is bigger than the content; we can’t continue like that.”
“It is becoming almost a daily thing where you buy a box of flakes and it is half inside it. It is a season for us to wake up as consumers to demand for better service. It will make our economy better because if you get good service, you will spend your money with ease. If we don’t do that people will keep looking for quality products from outside,” he added.
Olusegun Ladega, Project Manager, Interstate Architects Ltd., who was one of the guests at the event, lauded the organisers for an impressive award and for spearheading a platform where value for money is not side-lined or relegated to the background.
“The focus of the award is very apt and important because you are more or less given consumer’s feedback and the focus on value for money is very critical. I look forward to more events because I am sure that the originators plan is for it to be annual. It is very commendable and I believe it will also push manufacturers and producers to focus on the critical point of value for money,” he said.
Sola Salako-Ajulo, President/Founder of Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria, who was bestowed with a special recognition award as a foremost consumer advocate and activist, expressed surprise and gratitude for the recognition.
“The essence of awards like this is to encourage brands to understand that consumers actually vote for them based on perceived value. Consumers will continue to support brands as long as they get value. An event such as this provides good competition in the marketplace. Competition is very important and awards like this encourage competition and that will ensure that more brands aspire to improve their own value so that they can be the ones to pick up the awards next time,” she said.
