SON certifies Dangote Sugar
In a bid to ensure all its products are consumable worthy, Dangote Sugar Refinery, a leading manufacturing brand has disclosed that the company has been certified as a food safety compliant company by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
In a statement released by the company on Sunday, it stated that the NIS ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System is a principle that steers the business of refining and processing high quality sugar employing safe and measured practices in the eventual production of the product.
The Deputy Group Managing Director, Dangote Sugar Refinery, Mr.Abdullahi Sule, was quoted as saying the certification was the third in the series of the ISO certification on quality, process safety/security and food safety achieved by the refinery, thus making it the only sugar company in the country to be issued with three ISO certificate.
In Mr Sule words, “The certification attests to the refinery’s relentless efforts at achieving its set goal to be one of the world’s leading integrated sugar producers, with high quality products and using best practices in the day-to-day running of its operations, in line with internationally accepted standards.
“The DSR is currently working towards the achievement of Food Safety System Certification 22000; a global food safety initiative recognised scheme.”
He stated that the refinery was also actively pursuing a backward integration master plan with a target of producing 1.5 million tonnes of sugar per annum, adding that the target would enable it to meet the National Sugar Master Plan.
The statement also highlighted the company’s intentions to further invest the sum of N180bn into its factories in Sokoto and Kebbi states as well as purchase 150,000 hectares of land allocated for the upcoming projects in Kogi, Kwara, Jigawa, Sokoto, Taraba and Kebbi states
