Smile Communications gets a new CEO

Nigeria’s leading communications service provider, Smiles Communications Limited, has appointed, Mr. Godfrey Uhrobo, as its new Managing Director.

Uhrobo was appointed recently as part of a management change aimed at repositioning the company for stronger growth and to expand its market share.

Uhrobo, who was handed the baton of leadership from Mr. Michiel Buitelaar, is expected to deploy his wealth of experience in the telecoms industry to drive Smile’s new phase of expansion, which is intended to consolidate its leadership in the data market as well as drive its quest for market share in the voice segment.

Speaking during the launch of Smile’s new innovation SmileVoice, Uhrobo told journalists that his vision for the company was in line with Smile’s vision which is to provide good capacity and ensure that the company builds more base station.

He added: “We’ll keep improving and increasing coverage, and we’ll continue to consolidate so that our customer customers will continue to have great experience.”

The company which first rolled out its data service in Ibadan a few years back and has now expanded to eight cities, says it is now set to further stretch it reach to other cities in the country so that consumers that are not yet within its coverage area can also enjoy its super-fast internet bundle and affordable voice calls which is just 8k per second to any network.

Uhrobo, made his first public appearance today, at a media event in Lagos to launch Smile’s Voice call package, which allows customers to make cheap voice calls over the internet for only 8k/ second.
SmileVoice comes in two options; using a world-first downloadable free mobile App that affords customers with a Smartphone Android and Apple iPhone device the ability to make SuperClear voice calls over Smile’s 4G LTE network, or through the use of VoLTE-enabled handsets plus a Smile SIM card, such as the latest Samsung devices.

Smile is the first operator in West Africa to offer its customers Voice over LTE services, giving them access to the fast growing global standard for voice and video calling. Registered Smile customers can use their one data bundle for SuperFast mobile broadband plus voice calls, video calls and SMSs. All SmileVoice calls are charged in MBs per second to an active data bundle which equates to a kobo/second rate.
