SBI Media empowers next-generation media leaders through strategic workshops

It was a whole new experience for over 1,000 millennials and members Gen-Z who benefited from the second edition of the free annual media workshop hosted by SBI media, one of the foremost media planning, buying and strategy agencies in Nigeria recently.

The hybrid and in-person free media workshop is part of SBI commitment and  corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability projects aimed at empowering Nigeria youths. The workshop featured a series of sessions which covered channel development, audience building, video storytelling, brand partnerships, equipment selection, including the various editing tools.

The media workshop held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, with the theme: “Tap Into the Video Evolution” gathered leading Nigerian video content creators and movie producers like Kunle Afolayan, world renowned filmmaker & director, Edem Victor, Vira video & star-maker, Dele Kadiri, GM, Boomplay, and Tolu Aderemi, Partner, Perchestone&Graeys.

Speaking at the workshop, Rotimi Bankole, CEO SBI Media, said that the vision of the agency is to raise, support and develop the Nigeria Youth while urging the youth that participated in the workshop to take advantage of what they learnt to forge ahead in their career.

Commending the agency’s initiative, Bukola Oloyede, Country Manager, Sony MEA, said: “Nigeria stirred the youth that video content is extremely relevant because the Gen-Z and the millennial pay less attention to reading long articles but video say over packed with a lot of information and opportunities because there is value in face to face conversations with the people you look up to. I will advise potential partners and sponsors to jump on the wagon to support a noble course like this.”

On his part, Kunle Afolayan, who gave insight to ‘Ask me anything video Biz’, appreciated the agency for providing the avenue for youth to learn.

His words: “I want to say a very big thank you to SBI Media for giving this opportunity for people to learn for free, to every aspiring and existing content creators, in whatever you do, money is good but substance is key, don’t put money first. Explore and concentrate on substance, not money because that is what will take you far.”

Dele Kadiri, who  spoke on ‘Platform, platform owners and content that catch fire’ said; “Create contents that catch fire by leveraging on timing with your audience through branding the right content with consistency.”

At the fireside session, Edem Victor, who spoke on ‘Building partnerships for growth in show business’ advised participants to consider the act of collaboration as it is the key tap into people’s skills.

To him, “Collaborations are very key because it helps to tap into other people’s skills and fan base; it is not just the camera but also the person behind the camera, so get skills.”

Olalekan who lectured on ‘Shooting for glamour’ revealed that: “Social media is faster; you have to be spontaneous and deliberate with your contents. I will advise the youth to be very consistent, monitor the trend; know the next trend, and jump on it”.

In Bankole’s closing remark, he said the CSR journey has been interesting, so many brands have keyed into the vision that is why there are massive additions to the sponsors this year while he thanked them for their support on the initiative.

Some of the participants were rewarded with varieties of equipment to  jump start their careers in video making,  a lucky winner was rewarded round-trip ticket to any choice destination, courtesy of the Turkish Airlines, one of the sponsors.

Participants had an eye-opening experience with facilitators telling personal stories and giving them proven research that can work for them.
