Samsung advises users to return Galaxy Note7

Following the reported cases involving in the Samsung Galaxy Note7 phones, the management of Samsung Electronics West Africa has advised customers to return their Galaxy Note7 to Samsung Authorized Service Centres and be guided with available options.

Although the Galaxy Note7 has not been released in Nigeria, the current Galaxy Note7 users, despite the original place of purchase have been kindly advised to visit the nearest Samsung Authorized Service Centre for immediate assistance.

In a press release by Samsung, the company stated that it is working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7. “For the benefit of consumers’ safety, we stopped sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 and have consequently decided to stop production,” the statement read in part.

Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device have also been advised to power down and stop using the device while taking advantage of the remedies available at their Service Centres.

The company has said that it remains committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to customers and partners who have trusted and waited for the Galaxy Note7,” said Emmanouil Revmatas, Director and Business Leader, Information Mobile and Technology, Samsung Electronics West Africa.

It would be recalled that following worldwide reports of battery failures and fires with the Galaxy Note 7 in early September, including nearly 100 cases in the US alone, Samsung and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a complete official recall of all Galaxy Note 7s in the country.

Similar movements were made in Canada, Europe and Asia while regions in which the phone had yet to launch postponed shipments of phones.

Weeks later, with the recall in full swing and old Note 7s being replaced by hundreds of thousands of seemingly safer models, reports started to arise of the same exact failures happening with these phones.
On October 10, Samsung issued a statement that it was halting sales of the Galaxy Note 7 globally and encouraged consumers to return their Galaxy Note 7 to where they bought it from.
