Experts in the Public Relations sub-sector of the Nigerian Integrated Marketing Communications Industry (IMC) have urged practitioners to position ahead of the Metaverse revolution.

Commenting on recent developments in the industry, the practitioners noted that the Metaverse concept is relevant to the business of PR, adding that practitioners as image builders and perception managers need to swiftly plug into it.

Commenting, Austin Chijioke, immediate past General Secretary of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), FCT Chapter, said: “Public Relations profession is a profession of the now and future, given its steady recognition around the world as capable of bringing organizations, individuals, groups, goods or services together. The ICT world is being positioned and PR practitioners are working steadily to take advantage of the digital space to create mutual understanding and harmony among the diverse publics it is meant to serve.”

“The term Metaverse is understood as graphically rich virtual space with some degree of verisimilitude where people can play, work or socialize or carry out some other human activities on the internet,” he explained.

On his part, Sylva Ifedigbo, Country Lead, Marketing, Communication & Business Development at PwC Nigeria, in a LinkedIn post, said: “The metaverse is coming. It takes six steps to prepare:  Get up to speed, develop a strategy, test the waters, focus on trust, rethink core competencies, and align physical and digital.”

“The seeds of this virtual universe exist now as isolated experiences, but many of its concepts are already business-relevant,” he mentioned.
