OAAN gets acting Vice President

The Out-of-home Advertising Association of Nigeria, OAAN, has appointed Chief George Onwujiariri,the MD/CEO of Mario Sanctus Ltd, as the Acting Vice President of the association. Onwujiariri, is to replace the late Vice President, Olufemi Ogala who transited in November 2022.
The acting VP who also doubles as the chairman of the membership committee in an exclusive interview with MARKETING EDGE revealed that, the Executive Council, at its sitting in January 2023 took the historic move to find a replacement who would be acting in the capacity of Vice President before the association holds its annual general meeting in July this year.
Highlighting his appointment, he mentioned that he has been an Exco member for over 6-7 years while working directly under the late Vice President. Sharing his dreams and vision with MARKETING EDGE, the MD/CEO of Mario Sanctus Ltd said he will be glad to see a more united OAAN with a stronger voice.
“We will be having our next election at our next AGM in July, so the Council thought it wise that I should act in that capacity. It is all about selfless service in the interest of OAAN geared towards making the industry better. My vision is to see a stronger OAAN, an all-inclusive association where everyone is collapsed into the association with stronger bond and voice. I am looking forward to uniting OAAN where all the players will operate under one roof. The problem we have is that we still have those who operate outside the fold but I pray we will all come to operate as one soon.”
The marketing communications professional said despite the various challenges confronting the members, that it committed to ensuring members interest are protected and also its utmost priority.
“We have a whole lot in the pipeline. We are still asking the court for the interpretation of the Lagos State Signage Advertising Agency, LASAA law because OAAN feels that LASAA should operate under the purview of the law established it. OAAN’s position is that, LASAA should adhere to it in its operations. What we are seeking from the court is just an interpretation of that law. The law says there should be a Board, and two membership should come from OAAN so that they can add their input during decision making. If the Board had been instituted, it will possibly help to resolve so many issues as whatever decision that comes from LASAA is expected to emanate from the Board. Today as we speak, that Board is not yet in place and these are some of the challenges that we are praying the court for.
He stated that the association still maintains its stands on the issue of concession of some major roads across the state by LASAA.
OAAN’s position on this was made public and it is still standing by it. It stated that no member should apply or be part of the concession. It pointed out that there are ways in which government can possibly rearrange or manage things and not by outright give away of road spaces to individuals who may not be practitioners.
As an Executive Council of OAAN for over six years, Chief George Onwujiariri’s experience in various sectors comes in handy in his new position.
