NSE continues trading activities remotely to contain spread of Covid-19
Following the 14 days total lockdown declared by the Federal Government, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has said it will continue to work remotely to ensure strict adherence to the government order to reduce the spread of Coronavirus disease.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier this week, while addressing the nation, declared a lockdown on the Federal Capital Territory – Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States in order to hold back the spread of the Covid19 pandemic that is threatening to bring the whole world to its knees.
According to Oscar Onyema, the CEO of Nigeria Stock Exchange, the Exchange will sustain its remote trading activities at normal hours and days in line with the guidance provided by the World Federation of Exchanges.
He said: “To act in accordance with government’s directives, the Exchange has activated the second phase of its business continuity plan that will see necessary staff move into a secure accommodation that is only a short distance away to NSE, equipped with necessary materials for healthcare and their wellbeing.
“Access to our offices will be to those essential staff needed to ensure perfect running of remote trading and providing remote technical support to dealing members. We will also continue to provide remote access to listed companies and issuers during this period. While we hope for a quick end to this pandemic, we encourage everyone to maintain precautions, take responsibility for others by practicing social distancing and good personal hygiene. Most importantly, please comply with guidelines issued by relevant health agencies.”
