NIMN to retain only 30% of workforce

Newly elected President of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria, Tony Agenmonmen is living up to his promises to sanitise and restore order to the NIMN, as he has begun an extensive purge of the institute in order to return it to its pride of place among professional institutes in Nigeria.

The entire workforce of the NIMN have been officially disengaged and they have since been asked to reapply if they so wish. However, MARKETING EDGE has been reliably informed that not all the former staff will be reabsorbed as the board has decided that the marketing institute does not require more than 30 percent of its present workforce to function efficiently.

The source who is very close to the institute also noted that the severance package of the affected staff are being worked out and they will soon start receiving bank alerts. Only the Registrar of the Institute have been spared in the pruning exercise because he was still functioning in an acting capacity.

And to demonstrate it’s serious to the process, the new board has since contracted the Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) to take charge of the recruitment process to fill vacant positions. Interested former staff and qualified members of the public have been directed to apply through the CIPM.

Also as part of the restructuring, which the executives said is necessary to instill discipline and professionalism in the institute, the zonal office structures have been abolished and immediately replaced with zonal chapters.

The news of the sack came as a shock to the staff, whose salaries have not been regular in the past years. Many of them have hoped for a better deal from the new President who had actually promised them a better working condition during his maiden meeting with staff.

However, our source insisted that the purging exercise was imperative in other to bring about a sustainable change to the institute and raise the standard and quality of its service marketing and communication industry.

The NIMN is the body charged with the responsibility of regulating the marketing profession in Nigeria. This includes the authority to determine who are marketers and the standards of knowledge and skills to be obtained by persons seeking to become members of the marketing profession.

The Institute was established through the Act of Parliament No. 25 which came into effect in July 2003.
