Netflix partners Realness for African content
Having launched its African original series last year, Netflix, American based global streaming service, has signed a partnership deal with Realness Institute, projector and amplifier of African stories, to launch an episodic content development lab for writers in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria.
Channels for entries will be opened for writers with film and TV experience from the fictional and/or factual sectors in any language on November 30. Six writers will make the final cut and work on Netflix’s projects, for which they will be paid $2,000 per month from June to September 2021.
Mehret Mandefro, Director of Development and Partnerships at Realness Institute, described it as: “A response to the dramatically changing broadcasting ecosystem which has a very important role to play in building a thriving media ecosystem in local markets and providing episodic creators with distribution opportunities.”
