Emeka Obia has over 8 years’+ experience in the marketing communications industry.

He currently heads the Strategy and Planning unit at Leo Burnett Lagos, a Humankind agency – where he strives to pull empathy and consciousness into his work, to solve business problems.

Prior to his present engagement, Emeka worked at some of the most respected creative agencies, and has a track record of developing purpose-driven campaigns that place brands in culture. From established category leaders to bold challengers to innovative upstarts, Emeka has worked on brands across industries including FMCG, Banking, Insurance, Tobacco, Healthcare and Non-profit, and for brands such as – MTN, Stanbic IBTC, Heineken, Nivea, Philip Morris, Amstel Malta, Lipton, Mondelez, Leadway Assurance, World bank IFC, Ford foundation and others.

Over the years, he has developed skills in strategic and applied innovation, trend analysis and forecasting, as well as in advertising and digital planning. His core focus is to thoroughly understand pop culture, and discern the flux generation, pulling empathy and consciousness into his work to solve business problems

Once described as a “human-swiss pocket knife” – Emeka is a keen observer of pop culture, fascinated by the world of human behavior: blending a drive for social change with a belief that brands can, and do, play a fundamental role in society.

In 2018, Trendwatching, a leading global consumer trend firm, named him the number 1 African trend spotter.
