MARKETING EDGE mourns the passing of veteran journalist and founder of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, whose death has left a significant vacuum in Nigeria’s digital media industry.

Oladipo, who died at 56 on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, dedicated decades to journalism, newsroom leadership and the growth of online publishing, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate across the media community.

Oladipo, the founder and publisher of The Eagle Online and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, reportedly took ill suddenly in his office before he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

He later channelled that wealth of newsroom experience into digital publishing when he founded The Eagle Online, positioning himself among the journalists who recognised early that the internet would fundamentally reshape news production and consumption.

Through the platform, Oladipo became part of Nigeria’s transition from traditional newspaper publishing to an increasingly digital information environment driven by websites, smartphones and social media.

Beyond running his media organisation, he also played an influential role in efforts to organise and strengthen Nigeria’s online publishing community.

Oladipo served as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, from 2017 to 2021, during a critical period when online news platforms were expanding and publishers were seeking greater professional recognition and collaboration.
