Human resources experts unveil “Winning with People”, a book for people’s managers
It was glitz, glamour and panache as “Winning With People”, a management book co-authored by the duo of leading Nigerian human resources gurus, Professor Oladapo Akinloye and Mr. Gbemiga Owolabi, was recently launched in Lagos amidst pomp and pageantry.
Although launched on Nigeria’s historic date, otherwise known as June 12, the Democracy Day, the book launch initiative, which has added a more robust perspective on human resources management literatures in the country, was executed in line with the new normal realities as a virtual book launch.
No fewer than 100 guests were in attendance as it streamed live on Zoom and Facebook.
The book reviewer, Mr. Dotun Adako Group Head, Human Resources, BUA Group, was full of praises for the two authors whom, at some point in his career, he had the opportunity to work with in different capacities. He attested to the uniqueness of the authors as great managers of people.
“It is important for all people managers to inspire their team members to achieve results especially to succeed,” Dotun noted in his review.
The Book Presenter, Mr. Kazeem Odeyeyiwa, MD/CEO Repton Group Limited, was full of praises for the intellectual content deposited in the book. He was excited to be the ‘Chief launcher’ for the day as he committed to supporting the work by picking a substantial quantity for all his staff members, key customers and professional colleagues.
As a mark of honour, the book was dedicated to Lieutenant Oyeyemi Iyiola Awotunde (N/15168) who died in active service under Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno State. Winning with People covers key topics such as Talent Management, Managing Upwards, Letting People Go, Death in Service etc.
Oladapo Akinloye, Chief Operating Officer of Emerald Zone, Nigeria is a second time author as he launched his first book Management FasTrack in 2016. He has led various Projects & Strategy work from Design to Execution. He is a Learning & Development, Coaching and Mentoring enthusiast. He is a member of various professional associations. Oladapo is passionate about performance management & continuous improvement processes. He is currently involved in Management Consultancy practice, Supporting Business Leaders on strategy crafting and execution.
Gbemiga Owolabi, O&HR Director, Lafarge Africa Plc, has over 25 years’ experience spanning HR strategy formulation, international HR, talent management, employee engagement, capability development and HR business partnering and enterprise business transformation in FMCG, Oil & Gas and Telecommunications industrial sectors. Gbemiga has managed HR for multinational organizations in various geographies, including Nigeria, United Kingdom and East Africa. Gbemiga holds an MSc Industrial Relations & Personnel Management degree (University of Lagos) and an MBA Marketing (University of Ife).
