Google ends Hangouts as upgrade to Chat takes form

By Zion Rufus

Big tech Google has finally pulled the plug on its  text, video and voice chat app built into Gmail, Hangouts.

Google had earlier announced plans to Upgrade Google Hangouts to Google Chat at the end of 2022. The announcement read in part: “Starting November 1, 2022, Hangouts on the web will no longer be available. If you wish to keep your Hangouts data, we strongly encourage you to use Google Takeout and download a copy before January 1, 2023, when Hangouts data will be deleted.”

Introduced in 2013, Google Hangouts allow users to write, edit, and collaborate on documents. The collaboration tool also allows more than one person to edit a document in real-time. Hangouts can also be used for voice calls, video calls, or text-based chat, and connecting with multiple people at the same time.
