Former Vanguard Editor, Bayagbon launches news website

The immediate past Editor of Vanguard Newspaper, Mr. Mideno Bayagbon has launched an online news website, thenewsguru.com, which he says will stem the seeming lack of professionalism in the digital media space.

The new initiative has been embarked upon alongside former Acting Editor of Guardian Newspapers, Jewell Dafinone who is the group Managing Editor of the new website.

Bayagbon, who was the Editor of Vanguard Newspaper for eight years, resigned from his appointment last Tuesday. He was immediately replaced by Eze Anaba, a former vanguard Deputy Editor.

Bayagbon is a fellow of the ALI Media Fellowship. he was appointed Editor of Vanguard in December 2008, after an 11-year period as Group Deputy Editor. A year before his promotion to the editorship, he was appointed the Chief Marketing Officer of Vanguard Media because of his high business acumen. He combined this position with his duties as Group Deputy Editor.

Within the same period, the School of Media and Communication of the Pan Atlantic University appointed him as an adjunct lecturer in the school. Before this, in April 2007, he graduated from the Lagos Business School. Bayagbon still teaches at the School of Media and Communication.

He was at various times Senior Assistant Editor, Features Editor and Deputy Features Editor of Vanguard Media Limited, which he first joined as an intern in 1985. At the end of this period he was given automatic employment pending the conclusion of his education. Bayagbon reported extensively on finance, energy, entertainment, literature, features and currents.

Educated at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; the University of Lagos; and the Lagos Business School of the Pan African University (as it then was), he has attended several leadership programmes, including a stint at Oxford University, UK.
