FG to lay-off more workers in FAAN, NCAA, NAMA – Minister

Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has said that the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation will continue the restructuring in the various agencies, adding that more workers will have to go or be redeployed to different departments.

Sirika made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ forum in Lagos where he declared that the ongoing restructuring at FAAN was far from over and that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency would also be affected.

He also explained that the purpose of the exercise was to make the agencies leaner and more effective.

Last month 21 senior officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were sacked. The officials affected included directors, general managers and deputy general managers.

“Already, the government has started redeploying, re-assigning, demoting and even terminating appointments of workers in what it calls improper placement of staff members at these agencies, especially in FAAN, where the workers have felt the full positive impact of the restructuring,” Sirika said.

He further noted that the restructuring became imperative because of the high number of General Managers in the agencies, adding that a total of 88 persons were General Managers on grade level 17 in the agencies.
