EWL 2023: Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, and creative economy urges new era for Nigeria’s creative identity

Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, in a compelling Keynote address delivered during the Day 2 of the Entertainment Week Lagos, a week-long initiative dedicated to showcasing African creativity and advocating for policies empowering the nation’s creative and entertainment community, has assured the entertainment and creative community of the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering the growth and development of the entertainment industry.

While addressing a diverse audience comprising creators, film and entertainment industry stakeholders, artists, and more, Musawa passionately urged Nigerians to embrace their creativity, celebrate diversity, and leverage the power of artistic expression to elevate Nigeria’s global standing as she revealed ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy to formulate frameworks and initiatives aimed at propelling Nigeria into a position of cultural dominance on the world stage.

She stated “We here at the Ministry of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy have been working tirelessly to create the right framework and different initiatives that will propel us beyond our current growth, leapfrogging us beyond to a position of dominance in global cultural affairs. As a people, we are yet to bring the full spectrum of our creativity to the world’s attention. Our music and passion are already at the forefront of conversation all over the world.

“Our areas, such as architecture, design, game, and culinary arts, I must attest, present unique opportunities for exponential growth.

Therefore, as we usher in Nigeria’s decade of creativity, I call on you to join my team and I on this journey of redefining Nigeria’s creative and cultural space and fully support our efforts to have Nigeria as a main and permanent picture on the world stage.”

As part of the commitment to this decade of creativity, the minister also encouraged public involvement in the journey to redefine the narrative surrounding Nigeria’s creative prowess.

According to the minister, the overarching goal is to establish Nigeria as a permanent fixture on the world stage, recognized as a symbol of creativity and excellence.
