Brain Jotter debunks copyright infringement, rip off on Ejeagha’s song

The popular comedian Chukwuebuka Emmanuel aka Brain Jotter, has responded to accusations from netizens claiming he profited from a viral video challenge featuring Mike Ejeagha’s song titled “Onye Isi Oche” or Chairman.
The skit maker denied the allegations, citing TikTok’s intellectual property policy, which prohibits users from monetizing others’ work without permission. He clarified that all earnings from the viral song are directly attributed to the original creator, emphasizing the importance of protecting intellectual property in the creative industry.
In a recent video, Brain Jotter addressed the backlash from online users, acknowledging that he understands why many are upset that Mr. Ejeagha hasn’t received due recognition for his work.
He expressed appreciation for the criticism and feedback, recognizing the importance of ensuring the Igbo folklorist singer receives value for his hard work and creativity. He further revealed that, in appreciation of Mr. Ejeagha’s talent, he has made a personal contribution of N2 million to support his outstanding work, demonstrating his commitment to recognizing and rewarding creative excellence.
His words: “For those that think we ripped him or making money off the viral video I understand your concerns and it is very valid. However, no dime is made off the song for myself. The truth is all the music in my videos on different social media platforms, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Tik-Tok, the whole revenue is going to Michael Ejeagha’s record label and production company.”
“You cannot monetize any other person’s songs because all of these platforms have copyright violation policies that detect intellectual property theft immediately when it gets posted and give the revenue to the actual owner of the song, ” he added.
Intellectual property (IP) theft has been one of the major concerns in the creative industry lately, where experts strongly advised creatives to protect their works and is IP as a way towards expanding on their business frontiers.
