The African Development Bank (AfFB) has signed a partnership with Google to fast-track digital transformation on the African continent. The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Letter of Intent during the Global Africa Business Initiative at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
AFDB revealed this on its LinkedIn handle, stating that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to leveraging emerging technologies, extending infrastructure and developing talent and skills on the continent.
The two global brands noted that they have a strong track record in advancing Africa’s digital evolution over the past decade, adding that the partnership initiative will help accelerate the growth of technical assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises and the private sector in digitization, financing, digital marketing and business development.
Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, believes that the strategic partnership will help boost technological growth, inclusion and penetration in the continent.
“Our journey from a 2% telephony penetration in 1998 to today’s era of 4G, 5G, and AI signifies immense progress. With 70% of sub-Saharan Africans under 30, our focus is on catalyzing businesses to create jobs and offer innovative solutions,” Adesina said.
