When years of commercial thinking, brand building and business leadership converge, recognition becomes more than a moment and a reflection of the journey behind it
At the 2026 MARKETING EDGE EDGE AWARDS, that journey came into sharp focus as Illyas Kazeem was honoured as EDGE Brand Personality of the Year, recognising his extensive experience across marketing, commercial strategy, P&L management and business transformation.
Interestingly, in the business of brands, some names become associated with the products people buy, the markets they command and the commercial fortunes they shape.
For Kazeem, however, the bigger story is the business mind behind the brands, which is a career spanning continents, consumer categories and increasingly demanding leadership responsibilities, now receiving fresh recognition as EDGE Brand Personality of the Year.
Indeed, there is something about good work that refuses to remain concealed. So, like a carefully prepared meal whose aroma gradually escapes the kitchen, excellence has a way of announcing itself long before the person behind it seeks recognition.
Sometimes, the preparation may happen away from the crowd, the difficult decisions may be made behind closed doors. Not only that, the pressure, demanding targets and countless reviews may remain invisible. Yet, when the result begins to speak, attention naturally follows.
Notwithstanding, for the General Manager of BallFoods, that story has unfolded through a career built around brands, commercial growth and business transformation.
Recently at the 2026 MARKETING EDGE EDGE AWARDS, held at Ten Degrees Event Centre, Oregun, Ikeja, that body of work received public recognition as Kazeem was named EDGE Brand Personality of the Year.
Today, he serves as General Manager of BallFoods while concurrently holding the position of Group Commercial Marketing Director for all B2C categories at The FMN Group, providing commercial and marketing leadership across the organisation’s Food Commercial Division.
His current responsibilities represent the latest chapter in a career that has taken him through global, regional and local leadership roles spanning brand management, P&L management, commercial strategy, marketing and business transformation.
The foundation was laid at Procter & Gamble, where Kazeem developed expertise in brand management, category design and media strategy across West and East Africa.
His experience included Femcare and market expansion initiatives, giving him an early grounding in the strategic and commercial demands of consumer markets.
He later moved to Hayat Kimya, where he held a senior brand leadership position, before joining Eat’n’Go Ltd. There, his progression through increasingly senior marketing positions culminated in his appointment as Group Marketing Director, directing brand and commercial strategy across the group’s portfolio.
Those experiences broadened his remit from traditional brand responsibilities into the wider commercial questions surrounding growth, performance and business transformation.
Throughout his career, Kazeem has driven profitable growth through full P&L ownership, commercial strategy and business transformation, while also building high-performing teams and delivering sustainable growth for consumer brands across Sub-Saharan Africa.
That breadth of experience now converges in his responsibilities at The FMN Group and BallFoods, where marketing leadership sits alongside wider commercial and business responsibilities.
His academic background further complements that professional profile. Kazeem has an engineering background, holds an MBA and has a master’s degree-level qualification in Global Business Management from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Taken together, his experience reflects a progression from brand and category management into broader commercial leadership, with exposure to different markets, business environments and consumer categories.
It is within that context that the EDGE recognition takes on particular significance. The award places public recognition on a professional whose career has consistently connected marketing with commercial performance.
His path has moved from developing brands and shaping category strategy to assuming responsibility for business growth, P&L performance, transformation and teams.
At Ten Degrees Event Centre, therefore, the spotlight did more than celebrate a title. It marked a career that has steadily expanded in scope and responsibility.
The recognition also brings into view the less visible work behind commercial success and that is, understanding markets, developing strategies, managing brands, taking responsibility for performance and building teams capable of delivering growth.
Again, like the aroma from a meal prepared away from the crowd, that work eventually finds its way into public view. So, for Kazeem, the journey stretches from Procter & Gamble to Hayat Kimya, from Eat’n’Go to The FMN Group and BallFoods.
Notably, each chapter added a different layer to his professional profile, eventually bringing him to a role where marketing, commercial strategy and business leadership converge.
Now, the EDGE Brand Personality of the Year honour adds another significant marker to that journey. recognising a professional whose experience continues to connect brands, business and growth.
