From a vision born of passion and an unwavering belief in the power of brands to a landmark celebration of creativity, professionalism and achievement, MARKETING EDGE’s 2026 EDGE AWARDS has reaffirmed the enduring strength of an institution built to recognise excellence, elevate industry standards and carry Nigerian marketing communications onto the global stage.
Indeed, there are moments when an industry pauses to celebrate its finest, when creativity finds its voice, professionalism commands the spotlight, and excellence transcends the boundaries of geography, discipline and convention.
Also, there are moments when a celebration becomes something far greater than the occasion itself, but a powerful statement of institutional resilience, an affirmation of a founding vision and a declaration that a legacy built on purpose can continue to flourish across generations.
Meanwhile, for MARKETING EDGE, Nigeria’s brand-centric marketing communications publication, the EDGE AWARDS 2026 was all of these and much more.
Proudly and honourably, MARKETING EDGE’s 2026 EDGE Awards brought together leading brands, professionals and industry stakeholders in Lagos to celebrate outstanding achievement, creativity and professional distinction, while paying tribute to the enduring legacy of the organisation’s late Founder, Asiwaju John Tolulope Ajayi.
No doubt, it was a spectacular convergence of ideas, influence, innovation and achievement, where the brilliance of outstanding brands met the ingenuity of the professionals behind them, and where the enduring power of excellence took centre stage in an atmosphere of glamour, reflection, recognition and renewed purpose.
In essence, MARKETING EDGE’s 2026 EDGE Awards has provided more than a platform for recognising outstanding brands, professionals and organisations.
Again, the 14th edition also marked a significant moment of institutional continuity as the publication honoured the legacy of its late Founder, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer, Asiwaju John Tolulope Ajayi, while reaffirming its commitment to promoting excellence across Nigeria’s marketing communications industry.
So, held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Ten Degrees Event Hall, Billingsway, Oregun, Lagos, the awards brought together corporate leaders, brand custodians, advertising and marketing professionals, industry associations, creative practitioners and other stakeholders to celebrate achievements across the business and marketing landscape.
With “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders” as its defining message, the event placed creativity, innovation, professional distinction and the power of ideas at the centre of the celebration.

For MARKETING EDGE, however, the significance of the 2026 edition went beyond the honours presented on the night. It was the first EDGE Awards following the death of Ajayi on December 10, 2025, giving the event an added dimension of remembrance and responsibility for the organisation he founded.

The 2026 edition consequently brought together achievements from across the interconnected marketing communications ecosystem, reinforcing the role of creativity and strategic thinking in building brands and driving business growth.
Over the years, the EDGE Awards has evolved into one of MARKETING EDGE’s major platforms for recognising contributions to marketing communications, brand development and business excellence. Its scope reflects the increasingly interconnected nature of advertising, media, public relations, experiential marketing, digital communications and brand management.
Beyond the awards themselves, the gathering offered an opportunity for professionals and organisations to reconnect, reflect on industry achievements and recognise the people whose work continues to shape the sector.
The exhibition component of the event further demonstrated the relationship between creativity and commercial value, with participating brands using their displays and experiences to communicate their identities and engage guests.

For MARKETING EDGE, the displays represented another expression of its central philosophy: that successful brands are built not only through products and services but through ideas, communication, consumer understanding and disciplined execution.
Yet, at the centre of the 2026 celebration was the legacy of Ajayi, whose vision gave birth to MARKETING EDGE and its various industry platforms.
Ajayi established the publication around a belief in the importance of brands, the professionals behind them and the need for a credible platform capable of reporting industry developments while recognising outstanding contributions.
His influence extended beyond the establishment of a media organisation. Through MARKETING EDGE, he created an environment where journalism, industry engagement, professional development and recognition could work together to strengthen the marketing communications ecosystem.
The EDGE Awards remains one of the clearest expressions of that vision. Amos Oladele, Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of MARKETING EDGE during his welcome address, acknowledged the importance of the founder’s contribution while reflecting on the responsibility now facing the organisation.
He described Ajayi as a visionary, builder and passionate advocate of the marketing communications industry who believed that great brands deserved to have their stories told and that excellence deserved recognition.
According to him, Ajayi also believed that the Nigerian marketing communications industry needed a credible platform that would not only document its progress but celebrate its finest achievements.
That vision, Oladele noted, continues to guide MARKETING EDGE. The 2026 awards therefore became an opportunity for the organisation to demonstrate continuity rather than simply commemorate its late founder.
For the current leadership and team, sustaining Ajayi’s vision requires more than preserving established traditions. It means strengthening the platforms he created, responding to changes within the industry and ensuring that MARKETING EDGE remains relevant to emerging generations of professionals.
Therefore, that outlook defined much of the significance attached to the 2026 edition. The successful staging of the awards represented a collective effort by the MARKETING EDGE team, particularly following the loss of its founder. Behind the ceremony was the work of professionals responsible for planning, coordination, editorial engagement, partnerships and execution.
Similarly, the occasion therefore served as both a celebration of industry achievement and an affirmation of the organisation’s institutional resilience. However, the organisation’s responsibility, therefore, is to build upon the foundation already established, expand its professional engagement and create platforms through which ideas, achievements and industry conversations can continue to gain visibility.
Furthermore, that responsibility also informed the National Marketing Stakeholders Summit held as part of MARKETING EDGE’s 2026 flagship activities.
Beyond this, the summit, themed “Cultural Authenticity as Currency: Turning Heritage into Modern Branding & Marketing,” placed culture, identity and heritage at the centre of discussions around contemporary branding.
At the same time, the theme examined the relationship between cultural authenticity and modern brand development, providing industry stakeholders with a platform to consider how heritage and identity can contribute to meaningful brand storytelling and stronger connections with audiences.
Equally important, the summit complemented the EDGE Awards by bringing an intellectual and professional engagement dimension to the wider event.
Besides, while the awards celebrated achievements that had already been delivered, the summit provided room for stakeholders to interrogate emerging questions around the future of branding and marketing.
Together, the two platforms reflected MARKETING EDGE’s broader role within the industry: promoting ideas, facilitating professional conversations and recognising the people and organisations turning those ideas into tangible achievements.
In addition, for an industry defined by creativity and constant change, such platforms also provide an opportunity to assess the standards by which professional achievement is measured.
Against this backdrop, the “Beyond Borders” philosophy of the 2026 EDGE Awards captured this wider ambition. For MARKETING EDGE, excellence is not confined to a particular professional discipline or geographical location.
Subsequently,it can emerge through a campaign, a brand strategy, an innovative business model, a creative intervention or the work of professionals whose contributions advance the industry.
On the other hand, the phrase therefore reflects an ambition to broaden the conversation around achievement and encourage Nigerian professionals and brands to see their work within a wider competitive and professional environment.
Now, the awards also reinforce the importance of recognising the people behind successful brands. Behind every campaign, brand experience and commercial achievement are teams whose strategic thinking, creativity and execution determine whether an idea succeeds. So,recognising those contributions provides visibility to the expertise that often remains behind the finished product.
In the same vein, for recipients of the 2026 EDGE Awards, the recognition therefore represented both acknowledgement and responsibility.
Remarkably, the continued participation of stakeholders remains important to the development of platforms such as the EDGE Awards, particularly as the marketing communications industry continues to evolve through technology, changing consumer behaviour and new forms of brand engagement.
Of particular note, for MARKETING EDGE, the challenge ahead is consequently twofold: preserve the values upon which the organisation was founded while creating new platforms and opportunities that respond to the future of the industry.
Clearly, that balance is central to the legacy of Ajayi. His contribution is reflected not only in the organisation he founded but also in the professionals who worked with him, the platforms he created and the culture of recognition and industry engagement that continues to shape MARKETING EDGE.
Crucially, the first EDGE Awards held after his death therefore carried a clear message of continuity. His absence has created a personal and institutional void, but the organisation’s response has been to continue the work, strengthen the structures already established and ensure that the principles behind them remain relevant.
Significantly, the 2026 edition demonstrated that process in action. From the recognition of outstanding professionals and organisations to the conversations generated around cultural authenticity, the event brought together the different dimensions of MARKETING EDGE’s mission.
It celebrated what the industry has achieved while creating space to consider where it is heading.More importantly, it placed professional excellence at the centre of the conversation.
As guests departed the Ten Degrees Event Hall, the significance of the evening extended beyond the awards and celebrations. The 2026 EDGE Awards had reinforced MARKETING EDGE’s commitment to recognising achievement, promoting ideas and sustaining industry conversations.
Thus, it had also marked a new chapter for an organisation navigating life after its founder while carrying forward the philosophy that shaped its existence.

Nonetheless, the organisation’s continued commitment to “Promoting the Brand Idea” remains central to that task, alongside its efforts to document industry developments, facilitate professional conversations and recognise excellence.
The 2026 EDGE Awards, in that sense, was both a celebration and a continuation. It celebrated the professionals and organisations whose work has contributed to the industry, while continuing the institutional journey that Ajayi began.
Even so, as MARKETING EDGE moves beyond its 2026 celebration, the enduring challenge will be to ensure that the vision remains dynamic, relevant and capable of inspiring the next generation.
Notably, the legacy of John Ajayi will therefore be measured not only by what he established, but by what those entrusted with his vision continue to build.
Indeed, for MARKETING EDGE, the journey continues with the same central idea that has defined its work for more than two decades, which is, Promoting the Brand Idea and celebrating excellence beyond borders.
