In a space of four weeks, the ticket sales of Nollywood indigenous film, Lakatabu has garnered an estimated N126.4 million at the Cinema.

This was made known on X handle by Filmone Entertainment, a prominent West African movie distribution company known for its success with blockbuster titles such as ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ and ‘Omoghetto The Saga’.

According to the company, ‘Lakatabu’, a film produced by Odulade Adekola and premiered in June 21, has quickly become one of the successful Nollywood movies in 2024, reflecting the rising popularity of local film productions among the Nigerian movie audiences.

In the data released by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), it was revealed that Lakatabu was the highest-grossing Nollywood film from June 21 to June 27, 2024, raking in about N65 million during this period alone.

The film had reportedly earned 47 million naira in its opening weekend with over 11,000 Cinema admission, marking the highest opening in the year 2024. In the first week of June, its earnings stood at 94 million naira.

The indigenous film features Odunlade Adekola, a sensational actor who leveraged his acting prowess to facilitate its success at the box office.

Adekola’s decision to produce Lakatabu was said to have been informed by the success he recorded earlier this year while featuring in “Ajanaku”, a film released by Eniola Ajao which surpassed 100 million naira in ticket sales within five days of its debut and eventually grossed 250 million naira in Cinema.

Other notable actors who starred in the film include Adebayo Salami, Adedimeji Lateef and Akin Lewis.

Renowned for his compelling roles and editorial skills, Adekola has continued to solidify his reputation for producing high-grossing films in the Nollywood industry. In July 2023, the actor released “Orisa” which grossed 127 million naira in ticket sales, showcasing his consistent box office appeal.

Adekola has also made a significant mark in the industry, earning two AMVCA awards for his versatility in both comedic and supporting roles.
