OAAN inducted 5 new agencies, delisted no member last year – Ibiam

Chiddy Ibiam, General Manager of the Out-of-home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), has revealed that five new agencies were inducted into their fold, with no member of the association being delisted in the year 2022. The GM, while speaking with MARKETING EDGE, said the association encourages members to pay up their debts to avoid being delisted at the next Annual General Meeting after a compilation list would have been submitted.
“For induction of new members, there were five of them; two had been admitted before that time but what we did later was formal induction for them. We then inducted three fresh members. So in all, five new members were inducted.
“Meanwhile, we did not delist members but there are some who still owe bit by bit. During our last AGM, we wanted to restructure to ensure that nobody owes anything. We are encouraging those of them to pay up their dues because we measure our membership based on financial status. By the time we finish compiling the list, we might delist but that would be at the AGM, after which we will have a current list. The condition is that you must pay up outstanding dues before you can come back,” she said.
According to OAAN’s published report, in 2021, the association had about 97 financial members. But this number, Mrs. Ibiam said, might change at the next AGM when those owing would have sorted out their debts. The last time members were delisted was in August 2020 for inability to meet their financial obligations to the Association.
Mrs. Ibiam also pointed out what the body is doing about some of its practitioners who still practice as non-members of the association.
“A lot of practitioners prefer to go to LASAA first to register. What OAAN is doing is to encourage them to join the fold because it is better to work with an association than with individuals. If an individual defaults, it is a bit difficult to reach them easily unlike those who belong to an association; you can reach the person through the association or the president. Even LASAA prefers to deal with an association because if there is any issue, they will write to OAAN. If it is an individual, it is difficult to locate such a person. We encourage these people to come and join us; even though the law encourages freedom of association, you can’t force people to join. Our partnership with ARCON is also helping out,” she said.
