Sanwo-Olu calls on private sector to invest in end-to-end waste conversion

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on the private sector to invest in end-to-end waste conversion as it is a long-term investment. He promised that the state is ready to transfer the waste to wherever the conversion location is.
Mr. Sanwo-Olu, who revealed this during a programme tagged “Your View”, organised by TVC communications, noted: “As a mega city we generate up to 12 to 13 thousand metric tons of waste, largely domestic waste, while some are industrial waste.
“People say there is money in waste which we are beginning to see in waste recycling. But it hasn’t tapped the huge number of opportunities in waste management. It is an investment that I believe the private sector can take on. A few people have come up, but they never finish through. I’m waiting for who has the funding to do the end-to-end of waste conversion.”
Commenting further, he said: “We’ve done waste to fertilizer before it became unsustainable for them, because in the end, it cost more than the regular fertilizer. Some have proposed that they wanted to do waste to power, but I could not give Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) first, which they requested. I can’t start by giving you the PPA before you show what your funding is, that’s where the issue is.”
“Waste conversion is a long-term investment; we are ready to transfer the waste to wherever the location is. People are doing waste recycling, but the number is not big enough.”
