9mobile unveils e-SIM for improved customer experience

As technology continued to advance, brands innovate to remain competitive. In a latest move to delight subscribers, 9mobile, Nigeria’s leading mobile network, has joined the rest of global mobile operators as it unveils embedded subscriber identity module (eSIM) on its network.

eSIM is a software-based digital chip, a product of advanced technology, embedded by the manufacturer directly into the device without a physical sim.

The latest chip, when fully in use, replaced the traditional physical plastic SIM card, comes with a bouquet of benefits, including multiple usage and adaptation of one subscriber profile across a broad range of mobile communication devices, internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) apps, including smart commuting, metering, tracking, and surveillance, rather than the restricted single-device use of the conventional SIM card.

9mobile’s Acting Director of Marketing, Mr. Layi Onafowokan, who described the latest move as the most excellent experience that advanced technology provides, added that “the E-Sim is an in-built sim embedded in mobile devices in order to reduce the possibility of losing or damaging sim and eliminate the stress of dealing with the cutting of sim cards or finding adaptors”.

He further explained that E-Sim enables multiple usage and adaptation of one subscriber profile across a broad range of mobile communication devices, internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) apps, including smart commuting, metering, tracking, and surveillance, rather than the restricted single-device use of the conventional SIM card.

According to him, “customers can walk into any of our select 9mobile Experience Centres to request E-Sim activation. A QR code will be provided to scan and download E-Sim profile and perform the usual SIM registration”.

A mouth watery offer of up to 7GB free data awaits customers that activate E-Sim service while SIM swap service is available at designated centres for those willing to switch to E-Sim.

E-Sim is compatible with Google Device like Pixel 3, 3 XL, 4, and Pixel 4 XL, including Apple Device like Iphone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, Xs, Xs Max and Iphone XR and Samsung S20 Series.

In July, MTN Nigeria set the ball rolling with the launching of its E-Sim trial. The innovative offering offers customers more security and improved customer experience and maintains the highest quality of service for its customers.
