Segun Aina steps down as Group Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited

Dr. Segun Aina, the Group Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, has on the 6th of May 2024, stepped down from his position as Chairman on the company board after a successful four year tenure.

Dr Aina served as the group Chairman from the 7th of May 2020, following the inauguration of a new board. As the Group Chairman, he achieved the great feat of restructuring and revitalizing the company to promote sustainable growth and value generation.

Joining the board amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Segun Aina and his team were able to turn around the adversity into opportunity and provided strategic guidance and oversight to unlock the vast potential of the group of companies.

Taking to his official LinkedIn page, he said, “Supported by the unwavering commitment of shareholders, represented by Governors of the six owner States, we were empowered to execute their mandate with full autonomy and independence, thanks to a new shareholders agreement and governance framework, which we crafted with the assistance of the KPMG Nigeria team led by Joseph Tegbe. We put together a five-year strategy coined SRC 2025 (Sweat, Revive, and Create) which has remained on course.”

Still in his tenure, four new entities were introduced under the Odu’a Group. They are South West Agribusiness Company (SwagCo), South West Innovation and Tech Company (SWIT), BITA Exploration Ltd, which successfully acquired the BITA marginal oilfield, and the socially responsible Odua Investment Foundation. Also in his tenure, Odu’a Investment Company Limited received an “A” rating from a highly respected global rating agency in 2023, marking the first-ever rating for the 48-year-old organization.

Dr Aina is a graduate of Accounting from the University of Lagos, with a Master’s degree of Science in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan. His career in the banking industry began at UBA and progressed to Ecobank where he rose in 1994 to the position of Executive Director in charge of operations and technology. In that capacity, he led efforts within the Ecobank Group to create innovative tech-driven banking products and services.

His remarkable banking career culminated in becoming the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fountain Trust Bank Plc, (now Heritage Bank) which he led for six years with great accomplishments, positioning the bank as an innovation driven bank with market leading products and services.

Dr. Aina served as the Chairman of Global Banking Education Standards Board (GBEStB) and the President of Fintech Association of Nigeria. From 2012 to 2014, he was the President of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and before then, from 1999 to 2001, he servws as the President of West Africa Bankers Association (Nigeria Chapter). Dr Aina previous Board positions include Chairman, Kedari Capital Ltd, a SEC regulated financial services firm from 2008 to 2014 and also served as Director in FSDH, NIBSS, FITC, Capital Express Assurance Ltd as well as First Atlantic Bank, Ghana 2010 to 2013.

He is currently the President of the Africa Fintech Network and the Chairman of the Board at Opolo Global Innovatio. He is also the Chairman of Fintech Associates Limited which began operations in 2006 and The Fintech Institute. He is a Fellow of London Institute of Banking and Finance, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Institute of Directors and Nigerian Institute of Management.

Dr Segun Aina OFR. was honoured by the Osun State Govt in 2005 and 2019 for his unique contributions to economic, social and community development, holds the Nigeria National Honors of Officer of the Order of Federal Republic (OFR) awarded in 2010 and has received honorary doctorate degrees from three Universities in 2013, 2016 and 2018.
