Nissan market share records ten per cent increase in Nigeria
Nissan Motors, a leading brand in the automotive industry says it has hit a 10 per cent market share mark in Nigeria, increasing the spread of its product range in the country from four per cent last year.
This was disclosed at the opening of a new ultra-modern showroom of the company in Victoria Island, in partnership with Stallion Group.
Managing director, Nissan South Africa and President of Nissan in Sub Saharan Africa, Mike Whitfield, hinted that the firm hoped to increase the market share to thirteen at the end of the current financial year. According to him, this is as a result of the establishment in 2013 of an assembly plant in Lagos. The plant, which produces an average of 200 units a month, assembles the Nissan Patrol, Almera and NP300 for the local market.
“Nigeria is one of the most important markets in our Africa growth strategy, part of which is a strong Nissan dealer network. We are delighted to attend the opening of the Victoria Island dealership, offering a customer experience in keeping with our ‘Innovation that Excites’ brand promise.“We intend to increase our market share to thirteen per cent during the current financial year, driven mainly by sales in the pickup segment,” he disclosed.
The new showroom, according to the company’s statement, brings to eleven the number of Nissan dealerships in Nigeria, which it notes as a demonstration of Nissan’s commitment to increase its brand visibility in the Africa’s most populous country.
The General Manager, Sub-Sahara Region, Nissan South Africa – Africa Region South, Mr. Jim Dando, commended the Nigeria’s new automotive policy, saying, “This policy will form the basis on which major manufacturers will invest in manufacturing plants and local equipment manufacturing.”
“We worked side by side to achieve this goal with Nissan, we have a strong desire to contribute to the rebuilding of industrialization in Nigeria and be contributors to the growth of the manufacturing sector” as he disclosed that Stallion had also moved up its market in the country.
The Managing Director, Stallion NMN, Mr. Parvir Singh, described the new 3S facility as ‘futuristic’, and unparalleled in Nigeria.
“Our Victoria Island dealership meets the standards of the Nissan’s global corporate identity, currently being rolled out across the Nissan dealership network worldwide,” he said.
According to a statement, the 3S (sales, service and spares) facility, occupying 900 square meters, line has a canteen, quick service facility, conference room and upper floor display area showcasing Nissan’s range of locally-produced and imported passenger, sports utility, crossover and light commercial vehicles.
