NBC holds 6th Annual Lecture, celebrates 28th anniversary
To stimulate a robust discussion geared towards proffering solutions to the challenges facing the broadcast industry viz-a-viz its roles and limits in a crisis situation, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) will hold its 6th Annual Lecture on August 24, 2020 at 11:00am local time. The virtual lecture, themed: Broadcasting Reforms and Coverage of Crises, Disasters and Emergencies, is coming at a time the broadcast industry’s ongoing reform is generating so much interest and controversy among the stakeholders.
The lecture is part of activities to mark the 28th anniversary of the broadcasting regulator in Nigeria.
The first professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria, Prof. Chinyere Okunna is billed to be the speaker for the event, while the webinar panel discussants include veteran broadcaster and multimedia strategist, Eugenia Abu; Chairman, Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, Hajia Sa’a Ibrahim; a broadcast journalist, Dr. Amaechi Anaekwe and Prof. Danjuma Gambo, a professor of Development Communication at the University of Maiduguri. The host and the chief host are Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, Ag. Director General of the NBC and Alhaji Ikra Bilbis, Chairman, Board of the commission, respectively. This year’s annual lecture is being held virtually in line with the present realities of the Covid-19 pandemic. The National Broadcasting Commission was established by the Babangida administration on August 24, 1992 by Decree 38 0f 1992 later amended as an Act of the National assembly by Act 55 of 1999 constitution.
