Moving Media boss seeks legal interpretation of LASAA
The need to review the law that sets up Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency, LASAA is gathering momentum as a prominent Out of Home, OOH professional, Mr. Aderemi Adetayo who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Moving Media challenged the activities of the agency.
He called for legal interpretation of the law, which according to him has given too much room for LASAA to arbitrarily exploit advertising agencies who ply their trade in the metropolis.
This is coming barely two weeks that the new President of Outdoor Advertising Agency of Nigeria, OAAN, Mr. Tunde Adedoyin also expressed worry over LASAA’s rate.
Adetayo who spoke to Marketing Edge in an exclusive interview on Wednesday expressed his displeasure with the outrageous rates being imposed on the advertising industry by LASAA as he posited that many advertising agencies had run bankrupt due to steep rates from LASAA.
“LASAA has brought this industry to its knees. If it were in developed countries, many of the advertising agencies would have been declared bankrupt. There is need to organise a conference with legal luminaries in place to interpret the law that sets up LASAA,” he said.
He lamented that LASAA charged as much as N50 million on some OOH agencies even when the government still charged them for Land Use and taxes.
He called for a composition of a board of LASAA, which will comprise members of all sectors of advertising industry to channel a harmonious way of working together with government.
“We have to go back to the drawing board. And I suggest that we pay to local government instead of LASAA to remove issue of multiple taxations,” he said.
He noted that the Outdoor Association of Nigeria, OAAN had taken every step to review the LASAA law through a sponsored bill to the state House of Assembly but lamented that nothing had come out of it.
“We don’t want to take the government to court, we are open to dialogue and I think this is what the current OAAN administration should be ready to deal with,” he said.
