Microsoft, Nigerian Universities Mentor 75 Students

The future of information and communication technology in Nigeria is looking brighter already as Nigerian youths gears up to take up the challenge of technology in preparation for the 21st century access to best practice Information and Communication Technology tools and techniques courtesy Microsoft student partners (MSP) programme.

Microsoft’s select of seventy-five students from twenty-five Nigerian universities as Microsoft Student Partners (MSPs) at this year’s Microsoft Nigeria Student Partner event held at Elizade University, Akure, Nigeria.

Currently active in over 100 countries around the world, and 27 universities in Nigeria, the Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) programme is an educational and promotional program that sponsors undergraduate students majoring in disciplines related to technology including Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Information Technology among others with the aim to enhance their employability and increase their awareness of Microsoft technologies.

The student partners are trained in product-specific skills not typically taught in academia, including knowledge of Microsoft technologies.

The developer platform evangelism director, Microsoft Nigeria, Oyeshina Oyetosho, who spoke at this year’s on-boarding event, says that while the MSP program aims to increase awareness of Microsoft products, programs and initiatives, it also helps expand the user base of Microsoft products, and results in better availability of properly educated workforce in those technologies.
