Matt Seiler Steps Down as Head of IPG Mediabrands  By Kristina Monllos

Interpublic Group has named a new head of its IPG Mediabrands division, which oversees media agencies such as Initiative and UM.

Matt Seiler, the CEO since 2011, is stepping down, effective May 1, and Henry Tajer, the unit’s global COO, is succeeding him. Seiler will stick around as chairman but leave at the end of the year.

Tajer, who’s also CEO of IPG Mediabrands in Australia, is based in Sydney and will move to New York to take the top job. Successors for his COO and Australian roles will be named in the next two months.

The change at the top was unexpected but IPG CEO Michael Roth nonetheless described the move as “part of a long-term game plan and a natural evolution for the management team.”

Roth credited Seiler with embracing innovation generally and specifically, automated ad buying and pay-for-performance contracts with marketers. It’s not clear where Seiler will land after his wind down as chairman.

As for Tajer’s ascension, Roth championed his work is Australia, media acumen and collaborative nature.

“I look forward to engaging with [our clients and] our teams around the world as we lead Mediabrands into its next phase of growth and development,” Tajer said, in a statement.
