LCCI pushes to buy Trade Fair Complex from FG
The management of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has said plans are on the way to buy off the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway from the Federal Government.
The Chairman, Trade Promotion Board, LCCI, Mr. Gabriel Idahosa, disclosed this at a press conference to kick-off the 2018 Lagos International Trade Fair which took place from November 2nd to 11th, 2018 at the Tafabalewa Square, Lagos.
Idahosa affirmed that the organization had already applied for the concession of the trade fair complex and was waiting to commence the purchase and transfer of ownership when the government gives its approval.
In his words: “We have applied for the concession of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway from the Federal Government and we are hoping that the Federal will yield to our demand”
Before now, the trade fair complex was given to Aulic Nigeria Limited in 2008 as a concession, but was later revoked by the Federal Government in September 2017 over what National Council on Privatization described as sub-optimal performance of government infrastructural facilities under concession.
In August this year, the council approved Agri-Africa Consultants/A & E Law Partnership Consortium as advisers for the fresh concession of the complex and other facilities. Commenting on this year’s edition of the trade fair, Idahosa said there were several changes that the organizers have introduced into the fair including online bookings and payment for stalls through the aid of electronics devices.
According to him, there were a lot of new changes that were introduced to the 2018 fair to enable participants connect with other businesses in creating value.
The Chairman Trade Promotion Board noted that the theme for the 2017 edition of the fair “Promoting Industrialization for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Growth” was retained in this year’s edition, stressing that the organizers deemed it fit to introduce online booking and payment for stalls for convenience sake.
Other modifications introduced to this year’s fair, Idahosa said include ban on the use of public address system and musical gadgets for effective noise control purpose; establishment of the LITF Radio for the purpose of adverts, spot placements and entertainment; creation of the exhibitors’ service centre; improved segmentation of the exhibition area into different sectors; upgrade of facilities; and security arrangement, among others.
He said the investment conference had been modified to commence a day before the main trade fair in order to give business owners and company executives the opportunity to network and discuss salient economic issues.
