Former The Nation Editor Gbenga Omotosho sworn-in as Lagos Commissioner for Information
After thirteen long years as Editor in one of Nigeria’s most authoritative newspapers, The Nation, Gbenga Omotosho begins another journey in his illustrious career as an information merchant as he has been sworn-in as Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
The veteran journalist was sworn-in alongside other Commissioners and Special Advisers who had earlier been cleared by the Lagos State House of Assembly. He was immediately led to his new office by elated staff of the ministry.
Commenting about the event which took place at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium inside Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Secretary to Lagos State Government, Folashade Jaji, said the inauguration of cabinet members by Sanwo-Olu was an expression of the administration’s will to improve the lives of residents.
“This Swearing-In-Ceremony shows the willingness and preparedness to be held to account of our stewardship while also forging ahead in our quest to improve the standard of living of the masses,” Jaji said.
She said the ceremony was symbolic and significant in many respects to the state government’s demonstrated commitment to the sustenance of democratic culture, norms and values.
Besides Mr. Omotosho, those sworn in are Mr. Tunji Bello, Mrs. Sanyaolu Kikelomo Morenike, Engr. Sodeinde Olalekan Nurudeen, Mrs. Shitta- Bey Titilayo Khadijat, Mr. Musa Mooruf Olawale, Mrs. Durosimi-Etti Olorunkemi and Mrs. Kalesanwo Olayemi Yewande.
Others are: Engr. Agoro Moruf Olawale, Mrs. Odeneye Belinda and Mr. Olawale Mesewaku Babatunde.
Aside being Editor of The Nation, Mr. Omotosho also maintained a column which has become readers’ delight. In his last opinion piece which was titled “Time for a short break” he promised to bring the same tenacity and dexterity that made him an icon in journalism to his new job.
“This reporter will be communicating with this audience and others in a different language – frank and fair – on another platform, the public platform. I promise that the patriotism and sincerity that characterise this column will be sustained,” he said as he drew the curtain on his journalism career.
“I will do my very best to make you – and all other stakeholders – proud. I hope it is not too much for me to ask that the love you have shown this column, my humble contribution to public discourse, will be transferred to my new assignment in the Sanwo-Olu administration so that our dream of a Greater Lagos will be achieved.”
