FG tasked to empower APCON Registrar in implementing reforms
The Federal Government has been asked to empower the Registrar of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), Alhaji Garba Kankarofi in the implementation of APCON council reforms.
Former President, Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Mr. Kelechi Nwosu who made the call stressed that the continued delay in the setting up of a new council was detrimental to the wellbeing of the advertising industry in Nigeria.
Nwosu added that instead of waiting endlessly while things degenerates, the Federal Government should empower the APCON Registrar to implement some of the reforms in the industry. “Instead of crying over the delay in constituting a new council, I think the APCON Registrar should be empowered to implement some of the reforms that has been made pending when President Muhammadu Buhari decides to form a new council,” the TBWA Concept CEO said.
Nwosu’s lamentation is coming close to two years after the industry was stripped of an APCON council following President Buhari’s decision to dissolve the last APCON board led by Udeme Ufot.
According to him, the absence of APCON council was adversely affecting practitioners in the industry and has brought about poor regulation and limited implementation of policies and programmes that could have sanitized the industry.
