Competing boxers, coaches to be tested for COVID-19 before GOtv Boxing Night 21
Organisers of GOtv Boxing Night 21, scheduled for 27 November, 2020, at the Rowe Park Sports Centre in Lagos, have announced that all the competing boxers and their coaches will be tested for COVID-19. The announcement was made by Jenkins Alumona, Chief Executive Officer of Flykite Productions.
“The virus is still raging, as we can see from the infection data. The sponsors are big supporters of Nigeria’s efforts at curbing its spread and making the society safer.
“It is for this reason they have graciously accepted to fund the tests, so as to ensure that boxers who get on the ring are free of the virus,” he disclosed.
Boxers and their coaches are currently at the centre designated for the test that will be conducted by Clina-Lancet Laboratories. Testees with positive results will be isolated and treated at Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Gym, which has been inspected by a medical team from Lagos State Ministry of Health. Safety precautions have also been put in place at the gym.
GOtv Boxing Night 21 is one of the sporting events that were affected by lockdown measures for the COVID-19 pandemic and it was supposed to hold April, 2020.
