All set for OAAN’s Poster Awards

As the much anticipated 9th edition of the Outdoor Association of Advertising Agencies (OAAN) Exhibition and Posters Awards draws closer, players and stakeholders in the advertising industry are gearing up for what may be described as the biggest event in the industry.

The event slated for Thursday, June 24, 2015, at Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, is expected to be a grand spectacle exhibiting glamour and glitz as creativity in the industry will be rewarded for innovation demonstrated in the industry for the past year. Similarly, companies who frequently utilise the outdoor advertising medium as a means to showcase their products would also be honoured for their consistency in making use of the platform.

This year’s awards received an unprecedented number of nomination entries for the various awards categories which are fourteen in total. The categories are- Diary Food and Beverages, Alcoholic Drinks, and Non-Alcoholic Drinks. Other award categories include- Financial Services, Public Services/Real Estate, Electronics/Electricals, Automobile/Accessories, Household Products, Pharmaceuticals/Cosmetics, Telecoms, Information, Computer and Technology, Grand Poster, Legend Out of Home, and Oil and Gas.

Various agencies and renowned advertisers are expected to keenly jostle for the awards, which are expected to spring up few surprises. The crème-de-la-crème of the industry as well as stakeholders, professional bodies and other prominent individuals has confirmed their participation and are expected to grace the event.

Speaking on the awards, a member of the planning committee, Nwagwu Churchill, said the industry is enthusiastic about the upcoming event and the planning committee has made efforts in ensuring they deliver a memorable event.

In his words, “The enthusiasm has been very high; all the arrangements are in top gear. The committee is working round to ensure that we have a very successful outing. All the necessary logistical arrangements have been put in place.”

On what makes the 2015 awards uniquely special and different from previous editions, Churchill disclosed is that the award categories have been expanded to accommodate more recent developments. He also revealed that this year’s awards are based solely on the premises of merit after a meticulous empirical research was carried out by the panel of judges.

“If you remember in the last edition, we were only having about eight categories of awards but in this edition, the award categories have been expanded to fourteen categories and this is informed by developments in the economy, developments within the industry and some of the innovations recorded.

“OAAN’s posters award is not just any other award. This year’s is research based so whatever award we are giving out is based on empirical fact that this brand, this client merited this award and is a deserved winner. So, these are some of the elements that have been brought in to play into this year’s award,” Churchill concluded.
