Public relations professionals in Lagos will gather this Thursday for a different kind of professional learning experience as the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos Chapter, dedicates its August Monthly PR Clinic to a special film screening designed to examine how communication strategy shapes public perception, influences decision making and tests ethical judgment.

Rather than a traditional lecture or panel discussion, the session will use cinema as a learning tool, allowing practitioners to analyse real-world public relations concepts through storytelling before engaging in an interactive discussion on the practical lessons the film offers for the profession.

The August PR clinic will hold on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, Ikeja.

The organisers described the event as “a refreshing and engaging experience” that combines learning, professional reflection and networking in a relaxed setting.

According to the organisers, the film has been carefully selected because it explores some of the most important issues facing today’s communication professionals, including strategic positioning, message framing, crisis communication, lobbying, media relations, agenda setting and the ethical boundaries of persuasive communication.

The screening is expected to encourage members to examine how communication strategies are conceived, executed and interpreted, while drawing lessons that can be applied to everyday public relations practice.

Among the key themes listed for discussion are Strategic Positioning and Message Framing”, highlighting how organisations shape narratives to influence stakeholder perception, as well as The Power of Narrative in Influencing Public Opinion”, an area that has become increasingly significant in an era where information spreads rapidly across multiple platforms.

The organisers also identified crisis communication and perception management as another major focus, reflecting the growing importance of effective communication in protecting institutional reputation during periods of uncertainty.

NIPR Lagos chapter emphasised that the session is designed for professionals at every stage of their careers.

“Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or an emerging professional, this promises to be an engaging and insightful learning experience.”

The organisers also noted that the event goes beyond watching a film.

“Through the lens of film, we will explore practical public relations lessons, communication strategies, ethical considerations and leadership insights in an interactive and relaxed atmosphere.”
