Burna Boy breaks African record in Canada with ‘I Told Them’ tour

Nigerian superstar, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu fondly known as Burna Boy has set a new record as first African artist with the highest-grossing tour in Canada.
According to Touring Data, the Grammy award winner grossed $5.7 million from 69,219 tickets sold from six concerts as part of the ‘I Told Them’ tour in Canada, making him the most successful African artist to tour the North American country.
Touring Data, an international platform that provides PDF and spreadsheet with ticket sales information for tours in US and Canada, disclosed this in a post on its verified X handle (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
This achievement was said to have surpassed the success he recorded following his performance at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C on March 7, 2024 that generated $1.725 million in revenue as well as the earlier outing at the TD Garden, Boston on March 2, 2024. The concert grossed $1.593 million.
This strong showing in the US market further solidifies Burna Boy’s position as a leading figure in Afrobeats and a major international touring act.
Earlier in the year, the Afro-fusion star made history when he became the first African artist to perform at the Grammy main ceremony after he shared the stage alongside 21 Savage, and Brandy for a performance of his hit single ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’.
At the 66th Grammys, Burna Boy also emerged the first Nigerian artist to be nominated outside of the global categories after his song ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ got the nod for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
He has since then, continued to push boundaries and dominate global arenas with his craft. His success reflects the growing popularity of Afrobeats music on the global scene and this recent feat is another breakthrough that means a lot to African music.
