MTN introduces new electronic method of airtime recharge
MTN Nigeria has announced that it is deploying other avenues as platform for easy, available and accessible means of recharging airtime electronically by its customers.
The mobile network operator stated that customers can now recharge airtime through payment solutions platforms such as Flutterwave, Jumia Pay, OPay, Kuda, Carbon, and BillsnPay.
According to Funso Aina, the Senior Manager, External Relations, network users can easily recharge airtime by dialing *904# and *606#.
“It will interest you to note that for the benefit of our customers who have been greatly inconvenienced by the service suspension, we now have alternative channels of accessing MTN services electronically.

Recall that on Friday, April 2nd, 2021, commercial banks disconnected the telecom giant from using banking channels, including the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), leaving millions of customers stranded.
MTN with over 77.35 million subscribers, according to the latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission had reduced the banks’ commission from an average of 3.5 per cent to 2.5 per cent which predicated the actions of the banks.
The banks had written MTN to revert to the old commission otherwise they would block MTN airtime in all their channels.
The banks, except Zenith Bank which was connected directly to MTN, subsequently blocked MTN from their banking channels, leaving many MTN subscribers frustrated as they were unable to recharge airtime via USSD amid the Easter celebrations.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, announced on Twitter that the government was in talks with both parties to resolve the feud and restore and that the dialogue was now at an “advanced stage”.
