Lufthansa says it won’t reduce flight operations in Nigeria
Europe’s largest airline, Lufthansa, on Thursday assured Nigerians that it had no plan to reduce its flight operations in the country.
Lufthansa’s assurance is coming on the heels of announcement made by two foreign airlines, Emirates and Kenya, that they could suspend their flights to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja as a result of the prevailing forex crisis.
The airline’s Media Consultant, Hakeem Jimoh, made the disclosure to aviation correspondents in Lagos.
While Emirates Airlines said it would stop flights to Abuja from Oct. 22, Kenya Airways said its flights to the nation’s capital would be suspended from Nov.15. Both airlines attributed the decision to economic downturn in the country, foreign exchange challenges, and the shrinking passenger traffic.
While acknowledging that the Lufthansa Airline was equally challenged by the prevailing economic situation, Jimoh said , the airline will continue to render its services to its Nigerian customers.
“Yes, there has been challenges, particularly with the issue of forex, but I can tell you that Lufthansa has no plan for now to reduce flight operations in Nigeria, “he said.
