Unilever commits to health and wellness, acquires Onnit

Unilever has reached an agreement to acquire holistic wellness and lifestyle company, Onnit as it expands its portfolio.

Peter ter Kulve, President of Home Care and Health & Wellbeing at Unilever, said: “Onnit is a leading brand in the fast-growing nootropics segment. With its holistic health offering and digital-first model, Onnit perfectly complements our growing portfolio of innovative wellness and supplement brands that include OLLY, Equilibra, Liquid I.V., and SmartyPants Vitamins.”

Unilever, one of the world’s leading suppliers of Beauty and Personal Care, Home Care, and Foods and Refreshment products, will be venturing deeper into its offerings of nutrition, health and wellness.

Fabian Garcia, President of Unilever North America, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Onnit to the Unilever family. As a dynamic and purpose-led brand, Unilever is strongly aligned with Onnit’s vision to improve the health and wellness of consumers with scientifically proven solutions.”

According to reports, terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

In March, Unilever partnered Microba Life Sciences to utilise Microba’s database which cross references diet, lifestyle and sleep habits to discover associations that could help improve sleep. The move comes as part of Unilever’s Future Food ambition which was launched to help people transition towards healthier diets. The consumer goods giant has also committed to doubling the number of its products delivering positive nutrition globally by 2025.
