Tijani appointed Minister of Communications & Digital Economy

In a groundbreaking move towards reforming Nigeria’s tech sector, Bosun Tijani, a prominent tech entrepreneur and investor, has been appointed as the new Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. The announcement follows a rigorous screening process and brings renewed hope for the country’s technological advancements.
Tijani’s appointment was not without its fair share of anticipation and controversy. The tech maven faced opposition due to critical tweets he had made about the country’s politics and politicians. However, Tijani tactfully maneuvered through the challenges, issuing a heartfelt apology that eventually garnered him the support he needed to secure the prestigious position.
The 46-year-old entrepreneur has been instrumental in expanding CcHub’s influence across Nigeria, Kenya, and more recently, Namibia. Starting from its humble beginnings in Yaba, CcHub has become a major catalyst for tech advancement in Africa, empowering young people with tools, communities and capital to launch impactful ventures. With a billion-naira growth fund, CcHub has already committed to supporting over 95 early-stage businesses, including those bringing innovation to Africa’s education and healthcare systems.
Tijani’s appointment breaks away from the tradition of civil servants and career politicians being named as ministers responsible for the country’s burgeoning digital economy. His predecessor, Isa Pantami, had served as the director-general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) before assuming the role.
While Tijani is not the first startup founder in the government, his appointment is significant as it represents the first time a member of the tech ecosystem has been given a cabinet position, providing a new validation. As the co-founder of CcHub, one of Africa’s most influential tech incubators, Tijani is now entrusted with driving impactful policies to support the ecosystem he has helped build.
