Spectranet Limited, the foremost Internet service provider in Nigeria, is set to record another feat that will herald a paradigm shift in the landline communication space with the launch of the first-ever all-in-one Magic box phone desktop, known as “WiTel”, in the Nigerian market.
This desktop phone aims to provide business solutions to SMEs and helps families to stay connected.
Briefing newsmen in Lagos, Ajay Awasthi, Chief Executive Officer of Spectranet stated that his company introduced WiTel to close the huge gap in the communication sector which existed since the extinction of NITEL which was previously the sole provider of land-line phone calls services in Nigeria.
“You don’t have to recharge differently, it is the same recharge for voice and data. It comes with a combo so that you recharge once. It has high-capacity switches. It also comes with the facility or the voltage technology asset as well as high definition voice capability compared to the 2G and 3G. The network is also equipped with something called Multimedia subsystem supported by Huawei as our technology partner. “
Spectranet’s new product possesses a multi-purpose quality and features that enable users to make voice calls and also browse at the same time.
Mr. Awasthi said the new product is powered by advanced volte technology with unique offerings and robust features to make connections for business owners and homes easy and more cost-effective.
Nommy Paul, the Chief technical officer said it is a combo with endless features that suit all users both at home and in offices and it is multiple-users supported, with a dedicated 7-digit landline number.
“It is only one magic box, which can serve you the purpose of a voice telephone and data network which will give you a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can connect up to around 10 devices from this and all your family members, and friends. Everyone can take data from there also and it comes with a voice calling facility” he said.
The Tech Officer also added that with a conventional legacy network such as the ‘WiTel’, which has the inherent capability of transmitting voice signals over the existing data network, the fear of identity and location of caller by business partners are allayed.
“While you’re connected to this device with the Internet, when you want to make a voice call, you will not feel a disruption in the connectivity on the Internet. The packet is actually carried through the Internet itself or the data channel which gives us an opportunity to explore utilizing this as a home product that can be kept on your desk. You can use it as a fixed kind of phone if you want to call and to check what is happening in the home, you can directly talk to your friends and relatives. It has the facility to connect to your television with a cable or via Wi-Fi so that you can directly stream the contents directly from this device.”
