Onwuanibe charges WIMBIZ on the pursuit of excellence

Paul Onwuanibe, Group Chief Executive Officer and founder of Landmark Group, has tasked the Women in Management, Business, and Public Service (WIMBIZ) on the need to dream, excel and break barriers beyond borders regardless of the sectors they find themselves.
Sharing his thoughts as the keynote speaker at the just concluded WIMBIZ 22nd Annual conference, Mr. Onwuanibe outlined key principles and tools to serve as a guiding light for attendees to thrive both as individuals and in their careers and businesses. He stated that WIMBIZ has taken the center stage in uniting women from diverse professional backgrounds in a resounding celebration of empowerment and success.
The WIMBIZ annual two-day conference kicked off on the 2nd of November 2023 at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, and drew a large crowd of attendees eager to learn and network. The theme of the event was “Mission I’m possible: Thrive!,” and it lived up to its promise, offering a wealth of insights and inspiration to all attendees. The conference featured different topics at different sessions.
Speaking further, the Landmark Group boss encouraged women to be resilient, push strong and to always control the narrative of their lives no matter the situation.
In his words, “Ensure that you stay in power no matter how scary it is. Remember that after every set back, you have to survive, thrive and excel. As individuals, make sure you are able to adapt to situations around you including the economy. Have an Olympic mindset, be passionate about what you do and carry an air of excellence about with you.”
He charged attendees to surround themselves with ambitious friends, network, and understand the market properly.
While sharing her experience in one of the panel sessions, Ugochi Akiwiwu-Onyike, Senior Drilling and Completions Engineer, PSC Group, said, “Through my years, I’ve always pushed boundaries. People have tried to limit me but I tell them you can’t limit me. I refuse to be limited. People that have told me it’s not possible, I’ve told them, because you said it’s not possible, I will prove to you it’s possible.”
Also, in an exclusive interview with MARKETING EDGE, Ugochi advised women to take the big step of leadership in their various sectors by first volunteering before they can become leaders.
“Don’t just waste time saying you’re waiting for them to call you to become a leader. They have to find you worthy before they make you a leader. So, to build your leadership skills, you have to first be a volunteer and serve before you can go forward.”
She encouraged women to keep pushing ahead and never relent, always take hold of opportunities and never hide away. She emphasized that women should never let themselves be limited.
Another speaker, Captain Tolu Isa, Pioneer female Pilot, Aero Contractors, admonished attendees not to be just figures in the room but to always make their stand known.
“Don’t be afraid to sit at the table. Be there to make a mark. The way you conduct yourself open the doors for other women behind you. Don’t go in and shut the door behind you. Allow other women come in,” Captain Isa said.
A distinguished security expert, Dr. Victoria Ekhomu, CEO Trans-World Security Systems, encouraged women to bring out the motherly nature in them to nurture and bring together the people that they lead. She emphasized the need to assign responsibilities and hold accountable the people they lead in whatever sector they find themselves in.
She said, “If you want to thrive, get all the preparation and stop waiting for hand-outs. Get ready and get prepared. When you get all the preparation and you’re confident, you can make it.”
