Onakomaiya takes the helm as PILA’s 15th president

Abimbola Onakomaiya, Managing Director of Peakthrust Insurance Brokers Ltd. has been inaugurated as the 15th President of the Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA), Women In Insurance.
The investiture ceremony held on Thursday July 18 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, was attended by high-ranking government officials, CEOs, and C-suite executives from leading organizations in the insurance, finance, and technology sectors.
While expressing her excitement and reiterating her commitment to empowering women in the Nigerian insurance sector, Onakomaiya emphasized PILA’s role in recognising the immense talents and leadership potential of women as a powerful force for change.
Revealing this through her LinkedIn page over the weekend, she noted that PILA advocates for enhanced opportunities for women to reach leadership positions and achieve financial success in the dynamic insurance field.
According to her, one of the key initiatives under her leadership includes a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with United Capital Assets Management aimed at empowering women financially.
Additionally, PILA is partnering with the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors to further solidify its foundation.
The organization will also expand its health initiatives and corporate social responsibility programs, especially the “Adopt an Orphan, Transform a Future” program, while building alliances with like-minded women in finance.
“My seven-point agenda builds on the foundation laid by my predecessors, focusing on boosting PILA’s visibility, mentorship, health, corporate social responsibility, and strengthening ties with progressive women in finance.
“As I embark on this new chapter, my vision is clear: to propel women to the forefront of the insurance industry, cement PILA’s position as a driving force in the financial sector, and inspire a new generation of women leaders,” Onakomaiya said.
PILA, the oldest female professional insurance body in Africa, boasts over 26 affiliated groups across the continent, making its impact undeniable.
With Onakomaiya at the helm, the organization is poised to continue its mission of empowering women, bridging the gap between female insurance professionals and society, and ensuring that insurance becomes more entrenched in the fabric of Nigerian society.
She, however, expressed her honor in leading such an incredible organization and building upon its rich history of advocating for women in insurance.
