NIPR summit emphasises building capacity on digital technology
The fourth edition of the periodic digital public relations summit of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Lagos State chapter, came to a grand close in Lagos with the foremost PR institute renewing commitment to continuously enhance upon capacity building with a view to empowering its members and enable them up scale their skills and proficiency on digital technology.
The two-day summit, held at the Lagos Sheraton Hotels and Towers, drew in attendance a huge number of the institute’s membership cutting across various public and private sector organisations from state and federal government institutions in the country.
Now in its fourth edition, the periodic summit which made its debut in 2015 has continued to enjoy support and interest of industry stakeholders presenting a very rich resource faculty that features key intellectual digital technology professionals, including Bidemi Zakariyau Akande, Founder/CEO of LSF PR consultancy firm, and Gbenga Sogbaike, CEO, Plaqad Communicatios Limited.
The event also witnessed high number of corporate partnership and sponsorships that included major local and foreign multinational organizations such as Julius Berger, Zenith Bank, Polaris Bank, RED Digify, CNN Africa, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Cheveron, First Bank and Microsoft amongst others.
Speaking during the event, Chapter Chairman of the Institute, Olusegun McMedal, said “the objective of the periodic digital summit was to create an intellectual platform for practicing professionals in the PR field, with members of the institute, especially those of the older generation “who could not play effectively in the currently emerging fields of the new digital age”.
He noted that owing to the ever increasing feedbacks emerging from previous editions of the summit, the institute has had to continuously review and update contents of the summit to make it relevant to current demands of the digital age.
“The vision is to capacitate them to be able to work in a digital and new Media, to empower them to be able to use the medium. The feedback has been very encouraging; if you know the concept of branding, you will know that we can leverage institutions and, so, that’s why we have continued to host our events at iconic centers and venues,” he added.
