MoneyGram partners Airtel Africa on global money transfer
Airtel, a global mobile network provider, has entered a strategic partnership with MoneyGram, a leading global remittance company, to deliver financial solution aimed to maximize access to global remittances.
The partnership between the two companies aimed to facilitate international money transfers directly to the telecom operator’s mobile money wallet.
The services expected to commence in the later part of the year are subject to local regulatory approvals and would affect close to 19 million users of Airtel money across the continent.
The funds when received can be accessed immediately and used to pay utility bills, goods and services, transferred to other individuals, or converted to cash at any of Airtel’s exclusive branches, kiosks, and agents
According to Head of MoneyGram Africa, John Gely, “This partnership with Airtel will enable millions of consumers instant access to our global platform to receive money from over 200 countries and territories without having to even step outside”.
Gely added: “We’re excited about how this customer-centric partnership with Airtel will expand our mobile wallet capabilities, build upon our strong momentum in Africa, and further accelerate our digital growth across the globe.”
The MoneyGram and Airtel introduction of international remittances is a value-added service to Airtel Money wallets that would allow consumers to quickly and conveniently send and receive money transfers globally using just their mobile phones thereby maximizing access to global money remittances.
