Meet MARKETING EDGE’s panelist @second Quarterly Virtual Summit – Sherif Lanre Akinpelu
Sherif Lanre Akinpelu is the Strategy Lead, SPV Communication Solution (MTN Nigeria’s Marketing Communications Agency).
In his current role, he functions as an Integrated Strategist that helps create value and alignment through the line for MTN Nigeria, with different agencies across different capacities (Advertising: TBWA, DDB & YBR; PR: Black House Media, Digital: Playhouse Communication; Media: PhD Nigeria).
Since he started working on the MTN brand, Sherif has made significant contributions, alongside the entire SPV and MTN Nigeria’s team, propelling the record-breaking increase in MTN Nigeria’s subscriber base by moving from 40 Million to over 75 Million in less than 3 years.
Prior to working at SPV, he worked at Nigeria’s foremost creative agency, CreativeXone as an Assistant Brand Planner and got promoted to the post of Brand Planning Manager.
Sherif started his career at The Nation Newspaper as an intern in 2009, during his National Diploma Days at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta (MAPOLY) Mass Communications’ Department. After that, he moved to CosseLTD as an Intern in 2015, and later joined Proximityng in 2016 as a Graduate Trainee/Strategy Executive.
He has worked on brands like Etisalat, Dangote Cement, Dan-Q seasoning, Dangote Salt, Keystone Bank, Lagos State Government Ministry of Education, Dan-Q seasoning, Spectranet and a host of others.
In 2015, he won the Gr8AN Brand Strategy competition. In the same year, he enrolled at O2 academy Lagos, where he studied Copywriting & Strategy. He further won the ADVAN Future Leader in Marketing Award (2015). In 2017, he was a runner up at Corporate Communications Award.
He is the founder of Strategy Trybe, a platform that trains Strategists and Account Planners in Nigeria and Africa. To improve on his Strategy skills, he took the Ministry of Strategy Course in 2017. He has also learnt from renowned Strategists in Africa, and on a global level.
Sherif lives at the intersection of Strategy, Marketing, Behavioural Economics, and Technology. He hopes to popularize the field of Behavioural Science & Economics to help drive Brand Growth, and to drive Social Change in Nigeria and Africa.
Whenever he is less busy, he loves to read, listen to music, & observe people.
